Biographic (C. V) Anastasios Baxevanidis (B.A, M.A) Economics 2012 February:
- 2006: Married to my wife Bulica (Bella) Bleichman. I ran for office in the Richmond Hill municipal election as
an independent candidate, which was a great honor and immense opportunity for me to be a part of the most important
political event for a civic incorporated entity (Polis), where I exercised my duties and my rights in a democratic setting and framework.
- 2000 June: I moved to York Region (Richmond Hill). In 2002 I was elected to lead the Hellenic Community of York Region, which
at that time numbered close to twelve thousand members strong. I established the education facility (Hellenic Academy of York),
a weekend participation in cultural and academic activities. Today, this faculty provides educational and civic enrichment opportunities to more
than three hundred young Canadians of Hellenic heritage.
- 1995 November: I lost my wife June Myra Backman. I took a pause to reorganize and reflect on a new start. Continued being present and supporting the not-for-profit institutions I had been involved with since 1974.
- 1983 August 5: Returned to managing Baxis Co. and ran for alderman in East York, advocating and increasing pedestrian safety by
controlling the flow of traffic in and around school areas. Managed and provided transportation services in Toronto (ALFA Taxi Ltd).
Worked for the Y. R. Catholic School Board, responding to teaching emergencies.
- 1983 April: Agriculture Bank of Greece. Special consulting assignment.
- 1980 May: Small Business owner, office supplies, equipment, furniture. Baxis Co, Toronto, Ontario.
- 1978 November: Worked for Ceres, Hellenic Shipping - Monrovia in Piraeus, Greece. The company managed 178 ships,
including both general bulk carriers and VLCC tankers. My job was to manage and control the budgets of the ships. Each ship was an individual corporation.
- 1978 August: Completed my studies at the University of Waterloo, Ontario (B. A, M.A Economics).
- 1971 April: Arrived in Canada. The first impression in my new country was of the open newspaper boxes, but most importantly the mutual
respect and the immense trust in public institutions, which they earned from the citizenry.
- 1944 September 20: Born in Nea Orestiada, Evros, Thrace, Hellas (Greece), where I had my public and high school education. I served in
the Hellenic army.
